Tue, 31 Jan 2012 05:57:39 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.8.4 en hourly 1 Be wise – Immunize http://www.savvy-boomers.com/be-wise-immunize.html http://www.savvy-boomers.com/be-wise-immunize.html#comments Thu, 17 Sep 2009 16:28:57 +0000 Jere http://www.savvy-boomers.com/?p=43 This year we are seeing an increased incidence of flu cases throughout the country.  Some of these cases of flu are the more traditional seasonal flu that we see annually in the cooler flu season  and unfortunately this year we have seen the arrival of H1N1 which is usually referred to as “swine flu”.  There will be vaccine available for the general public for the next couple of months to help with immunization against the seasonal variety of flu and companies are working very hard to get the vaccines ready for use against the swine flu virus.  It seems that there may be some resistance to the virus in people who are over 65 years of age which is not the case with the more common seasonal variety of flu.

 

The CDC is recommending that all children from the age of six months to 5 or 6 years be given the vaccine as it becomes available.  Pregnant women are also thought to be vulnerable and persons who have depressed immune systems or have respiratory problems are probably going to be more susceptible to swine flu. 

 

Check with your family physician for answers to questions regarding either the swine flu vaccination or the immunization for the more traditional “seasonal flu.”
