Often times you will find that you neglect your fitness as you get older. Frequently a job or family issues will distract you from exercising. These fitness tips will help you get on track and get back into shape. Working out often takes a back seat to career and family responsibilities but if you are ready to make a change and are sick and tired of being out of shape, then follow the health and fitness tips listed below. These tips can help you to regain some of the youthfulness of your former years.

Follow this link for your FREE copy of my 3 Step Weight Loss Blueprint

A good way to get some additional exercise in is to carry extra weights with you when going about your daily activities. This will increase calorie expenditure and perhaps even build a little extra muscle. You might try carrying a shopping basket instead of pushing a cart at the grocery store. If you carry extra weight, it can help you lose weight. This will improve your muscle tone and increase your metabolism. Next time you are in the grocery store, be sure to carry a basket instead of pushing a shopping cart.

As simple as it may seem, just taking the time for a long walk every day will help tremendously. It will help to improve your circulation and stretch those muscles that are beginning to get a little stiff and sore. Sitting at the computer or in front of the TV will need to be offset with time to stretch and work those muscles that get ignored most of the day. You might find that fitness over forty is as easy as setting aside time every morning to get out and take a walk before your day gets started.

As you can see, getting back into the fitness groove is not as hard as you thought. All you need is time, a good work ethic and patience in order to succeed. Working hard will benefit you in anything you are involved in. Many people think they cannot be successful in exercising, but they are already meeting amazing goals in work, parenting, and marriage. Just get up, get out and start moving! You can surely see from this advice that reclaiming your previous level of fitness is definitely achievable. Take the time and do the work to get in shape. Stay dedicated and be patient. You will find that these traits serve you well in everything you do in life, not only physical fitness. If you are an employee of the year and parent of the year, you can also be athlete of the year. Get up, get out and get going.

Every year our life span seems to be getting longer and longer but what good is it if you don’t stay healthy and fit? There is no way to enjoy those extra years if you aren’t strong and fit so what’s a person to do? Here is a list of five things that will help you to stay healthy and more comfortable as you add on those extra years.

1. Staying active is one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself strong and healthy. None of that retiring to a big soft chair in front of the TV for you if you plan to stay in good condition. Just going for a walk in the morning before breakfast can be a big help but you should be thinking about activity throughout the day to help to keep your body in shape and your mind active. Take part in various types of recreational activities such as tennis and golf. Fishing, hiking, and camping can all be great ways to add more activity and variety in your life.

2. Volunteering with different organizations can be very rewarding and will give you a good reason for staying active. Not only will this keep you moving about the community and meeting people it will help with your feeling of self esteem which is really important as you make a transition from working all day to having a lot of time on your hands as a person who is retired.

3. Get enough rest each night. Just because you are not working all day doesn’t mean that you don’t need to get a good night’s sleep every night. A good night’s rest is very important n keeping your mind sharp and will help you make good decisions throughout the day. If you have trouble getting to sleep at night, try relaxing with a good book before bed time but always remember that a TV in the bedroom is probably one of the worst remedies you can try for insomnia.

4. Remember to laugh a little every day. Somewhere in a magazine I once read that laughter is the best medicine. Its stimulating and makes you feel good all over. Laughter will get your heart rate up, cause you to take in more oxygen and feel better about yourself and your friends.

5. Scheduling regular checkups with your family physician is another important point to remember. As a person ages it is necessary to watch over your general health a little more closely. See your dentist at least twice a year and stop by the doctor’s office for a complete physical once a year. If you have problems or conditions arising that you don’t understand be sure to take them up with your physician immediately.

Growing older doesn’t have to mean problems for you and the way you approach aging can be the key to a successful and healthy life as you add on those extra years. You have to take care of yourself and if you do you’ll be much healthier and happier in the years to come.

3 quick questions:

1. Are you a guy or do you know one close to you over the age of 35?

2. Have you or he looked at your/his bare chest lately?

3. If so… did you see them?…The dreaded….

“Manboobs”?

Obviously if you are female this is not an issue. But for us men, “gynaecomastia”, often jokingly referred to as manboobs (we can thank “Seinfeld” for that) is anything but funny.

From this point on, I’ll refer to it as “MB” if that’s okay by you.

MB is not an age thing. It can occur at almost any time in life. However, for those of us over 35, it is more common.

This is just one of the many symptoms of “andropause”, or “male menopause.”

When you age your testosterone levels decline…and more than that the testosterone gets “weaker” due to an imbalance between it and estrogen.

When you combine that with our modernized “estrogen-rich” environment that Dr. Holly Lucille frequently lectures on, you have a problem.

A big MB problem.

MB is associated with lack of drive (you know what I’m talking about guys) and excess bellyfat due to the estrogen.

Even more serious: Excess estrogen has been positively linked to prostate cancer.

Yep. MBs are not so funny after all.

Check out Dr. Lucille’s NaturaPause Audios. There is an entire audio dedicated to male menopause and natural solutions that really work.

Most do not work worth a darn.

Hers does.

Yes you can eat for weight loss. Eat the right kind of food in the right quantities and you will see the weight come off. That doesn’t mean that you have to eat lots of one kind of food and it doesn’t mean that if you change your diet you will lose weight. What it does mean is that if you learn which foods will help you lose and how they do it, you’ll be able to make a few changes in what you eat and you should find that weight management will be much easier.

Get My FREE 3 Step Weight Loss Blueprint Here.

When you are trying to lose weight you must take in fewer calories than your body uses. This is the result of eating foods that are high in nutrition and low in calories. You will have plenty of energy to burn off the existing weight that you want to lose and you won’t be taking in a lot of fat that your body will try to store up.

There are a large variety of foods that are highly nutritious and not high in calories. It won’t take much effort to find the ones that are right for you. You need to keep in the back of your mind that it is always a good idea to eat a variety of foods so that you can get all the nutrients you need to maintain your health when you start a weight loss program.

It’s generally recognized that foods that are low in fat will be the most beneficial in helping you lose. Remember that fat contains nearly twice the amount of energy as carbohydrates and that you need to cut down on the foods with lots of fat. You should also be looking for foods that are high in fiber content. These foods will be more filling and can help in digestion.

As a general rule the very best foods to aid you in weight loss will

>Be fresh foods that are not processed.

>Be low in both sodium and sugars.

>Be low in calories and fat.

Your new diet should be made up of lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Try to stay away from the white foods (processed flour and rice), look more to the wholegrain foods and why not try sweet potatoes with your supper? They are easy to prepare and they taste great.

Fish is another item to include in your new diet plan and you’ll find it can do wonders for your overall health picture. If you would like more information about Eating for Energy and Weight Loss click here.

Practical Life Extension

There’s an old proverb that rings with wit and reason: “Everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die.” So why do we want to live forever? According to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, author of “Chasing Life” and CNN’s Senior Medical Corespondent, we do not.

The real quest isn’t eternal life on earth according to Gupta, but rather an exceptional life.

While interviewing the foremost authorities on anti-aging and life extension, Dr. Gupta discovered three “universals” — three principles that each researcher deemed critical to extending our lives naturally and empowering us to live exceptionally. They are:

1. Weight training
2. Good nutrition
3. Positive thinking and having purpose

Jon Benson, author of “Fit Over 40″, explores each of these in great detail, as well as asking 52 men and women how they have managed to slow the hands of time down to a crawl. Benson does not waste time with hype and hypothesis. He focuses on real-world examples and applications we can all use to slow down the aging process and help prevent and reverse the conditions that can lead to disease.

Discover more today at http://www.jonbensonfitness.com/go/lessfat/fof

You too can live a longer, more exceptional life by simply adopting a smart, realistic and enjoyable lifestyle fitness plan. And if science just happens to catch up with Father Time, you’ll be many steps ahead of the curve.

The really big problem with most fat loss plans is that the food is drab and unremarkable. Most of the foods that are recommended won’t do much to accelerate fat loss and they just are not very interesting. Take a look at some of the most recent cookbooks and you’ll find they don’t have recipes designed to help speed up fat loss. The foods they use aren’t chosen for their fat burning capabilities and they usually aren’t very tasty.

Dave Ruel who is a muscle building expert and nutritionist along with psychologist Karine Losier have worked together to develop a plan for torching the excess fat and increasing your metabolism with Metabolic Cooking. They have built a plan for you that will give you meals that are nutritional, taste great and will stimulate your metabolism.

If you are going to lose weight you need to find recipes that can help to burn fat. Your recipes need to be designed with Metabolic Thermo Charge ingredients. You need to eat foods that have the ability to burn lots of calories as they break down the nutrients you body is going to need and the food needs to taste good too.

These recipes need to be presented in an easy to use all in one management system. It has to be easy and convenient so you don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to plan meals.

Metabolic Cooking has to be able to fight your body’s ability to adjust to the number of calories being taken in because this is when the metabolism slows down and weight loss will stop.

The Metabolic Cooking plan is able to:

Help you learn all about fat burning foods.

Help keep your body from adapting to your caloric intake so you don’t start putting on more fat.

Help you to easily create your own individualized fat loss meal plans and there is so much more.

Metabolic Cooking is going to help you torch the excess fat from you body by supplying you with meal plans that will actually speed up you metabolism and burn fat. You can find the foods and spices needed to prepare these meals in your local grocery.

The Center for Disease Control has recently issued a report that points out that nearly half of Americans between 55–64 have high blood pressure and are over weight. With these two problems together there is a major increase in the occurrence of heart disease and stroke and it may well be tied to the alarming increase of diabetes. These boomer’s health issues are going to put a tremendous strain on our health care system in the near future.

Recently published studies show there is a direct link between the increase of diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. As the boomers are aging we need to be very careful that this portion of the population does not let their inattention to health matters bankrupt our health care system while they set themselves up for an early death.

If we take a look to the North of us the Canadians are also seeing an increase in the rate of obesity and the boomers are actually in worse shape there than the seniors are. The number of boomers who use tobacco is twice the number of seniors and about one in three of the boomers is obese.

Boomers in the next few years will swell the number of retired people who are planning on living longer and happier lives. Unless the problems we have mentioned above are met head on it will be very difficult to find a healthy and happy future. Weight control is a very important issue and it affects many parts of our lives. We need a lot more physical activity, greater care as we select the kinds of foods we eat and the amount of the foods we eat. Without greater insight into our individual health matters we will see startling increases in stroke, heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. If you would like information about current weight control programs click here.

This year we are seeing an increased incidence of flu cases throughout the country. Some of these cases of flu are the more traditional seasonal flu that we see annually in the cooler flu season and unfortunately this year we have seen the arrival of H1N1 which is usually referred to as “swine flu”. There will be vaccine available for the general public for the next couple of months to help with immunization against the seasonal variety of flu and companies are working very hard to get the vaccines ready for use against the swine flu virus. It seems that there may be some resistance to the virus in people who are over 65 years of age which is not the case with the more common seasonal variety of flu.

The CDC is recommending that all children from the age of six months to 5 or 6 years be given the vaccine as it becomes available. Pregnant women are also thought to be vulnerable and persons who have depressed immune systems or have respiratory problems are probably going to be more susceptible to swine flu.

Check with your family physician for answers to questions regarding either the swine flu vaccination or the immunization for the more traditional “seasonal flu.”

Hiking within the city limits on urban hiking trails may not require as much equipment as do the longer cross country treks but it’s still a good idea to be well prepared especially if you decide to tackle some of the steeper mountain trails like those found in The Phoenix Mountain Preserve in Phoenix, Arizona. When hiking in the Desert Southwest you will need to gather some information about the area you plan to hike in and about the condition of the trails you will be on. Find out all you can about location and the length of your chosen trails. There are guide books available in the local bookstores which will show you all the trails that are available in your area and will give you lots of information about the trails. Next be sure to pay particular attention to the weather conditions on the day you plan to be out and don’t start your first hike on a day the temperature will be over 90 degrees. This can happen nearly anytime if you happen to be in the Desert Southwest .

No matter where you are planning to do your hiking water has to be right at the top of you list of concerns. You should have plenty of drinking water with you and if you take along the family dog don’t forget to bring a bowl so he can get a drink now and then.

If you need only a small amount of water for yourself you can always carry the plastic bottles of drinking water that are found at the local grocery stores. You may consider the water packs that are carried on your back and have a drinking tube that runs to a location

close to you chin. I usually take along at least a gallon of water in my cooler with enough ice to keep it cold for a refreshing drink at the end of my hike.

Hiking boots come in many different styles and are adopted to different situations. When hiking on rough mountain trails you will need boots that give your ankles and feet plenty of support. If you are going to cross rivers or streams you will need footwear that can be

easily dried and will give you sturdy footing on wet rocks. Walking in high topped leather boots that are wet from to much moisture can be very uncomfortable. Make sure you have the right boots for the job. Never go walking on the desert trails while wearing flip flops and even tennis shoes are not recommended.

The next item you should take with you on your hike will be a first aid kit. For urban hiking trails it doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. You need a disinfectant, perhaps an ointment with a germicide, sterile bandages or gauze, some tape and perhaps a finger splint. You would expand on this kit if you were trekking across country but in an urban setting you probably won’t need much more than this minimal first aid kit to help keep you safe. A top quality sun screen should be high on the list of priorities and kept with the first aid kit. Make sure you reapply a sun screen every 3 to 4 hours throughout the day for maximum protection.

Other items you should remember for your hike will be a hat and sun glasses. The sun is very intense in the Desert Southwest and you need to shield your eyes from the UV rays. A pair of binoculars will always come in handy and you should take along a camera for a few pictures to help you remember you wonderful adventure on the urban hiking trails you have chosen to spend you day on.
